Organic Chemistry - What You Need to Know About the Thiocyanate

Organic Chemistry - What You Need to Know About the ThiocyanateDid you know that at the beginning of Organic Chemistry there was a molecule that was re-named after a family member and that the molecule is known as the Thiocyanate? The Thiocyanate molecule is what we call an acid so it has the ability to react with just about anything and there are a lot of things that react well with the Thiocyanate molecule. The Thiocyanate molecule can have some powerful effects on everything it comes into contact with, including humans. Like all natural chemicals in the body, the interaction of the molecules in the body becomes very important in determining health. Thiocyanate is a reaction compound and therefore has a lot of potential for causing issues. There are plenty of reports about the negative effects of the Thiocyanate molecule on people who get exposed to it. While there are some reported positive effects for the Thiocyanate molecule, it still is not something that should be tolerated with out being aware of the dangers. You can expect to have some side effects when you try to work with the Thiocyanate molecule. One of the most common and possibly the most dramatic side effect of the Thiocyanate molecule are gastrointestinal distress. It is believed that there are two different types of Thiocyanate: an acid and a base. If you drink too much water after working with the Thiocyanate molecule, then this could result in gastric distress.Of course, working with the Thiocyanate could result in the production of even more Thiocyanate, so it could be that the digestive problems will persist even after the ingestion of the Thiocyanate is stopped. In this situation it is essential to look for a way to eliminate the effect of the Thiocyanate immediately, which is why you will want to try to stop any exposure to the substance by drinking enough water.Another reported side effect of the Thiocyanate is that it can cause an increase in the amounts of amines, carbonyls, and oxidants i n the blood. There is no evidence of these reactions causing any complications, but some doctors still warn against working with the Thiocyanate. One warning to consider when working with the Thiocyanate is that it is a highly reactive molecule.Other health issues that might arise when working with the Thiocyanate in Organic Chemistry include a possible reduction in lung function, inflammation of the lungs, and an increased risk of certain cancers. If you are going to be exposed to the Thiocyanate you will need to be prepared for some problems, especially if you are already suffering from some of the other problems associated with the molecule. Working with the Thiocyanate is definitely not recommended unless you are prepared for the potential side effects.

Hearts Growing Strong! $50,000 Match Available. - Heart Math Tutoring

Heart’s Growing Strong! $50,000 Match Available. - Heart Math Tutoring Heart’s Growing Strong! $50,000 Match Available. Heart’s Growing Strong! $50,000 Match Available. June 23, 2016 Heart Donors, Funding Partners and Prospective Partners As we near the final stretch of our 2016 Spring Funding Initiative, I wanted to share the great news that we have raised $620,000 to date! We are beyond thrilled with our continued growth and success as we are now poised to expand from eight to 11 schools for the 2016/17 school year! We are also excited to share that The Leon Levine Foundation has awarded Heart a grant that matches new, increased, or lapsed donations dollar for dollar up to $50,000. We’d rather not wait until the November deadline and would like to surpass the $640,000 fundraising mark by Thursday, June 30. Doing so would enable us to get into a 12th school this fall. It costs $50,000 to fully fund a school site where 50-80 students receive one-on-one instruction for 30 minutes twice a week from September thru May. The cost for a new school partner includes: an on-site coordinator, tutoring supplies, volunteer recruitment, assessments and data analysis. To make a donation to Heart’s 2016 Spring Funding Initiative, please contact me at or 980-292-2297. No amount is too small. Heart accepts individual donations and sponsorships from corporations and foundations. Anything you or your business is able to contribute would be greatly appreciated to ensure all students build the strong foundation in math and enthusiasm for academics needed for long-term success. Thank you for supporting our efforts to meet the need for math intervention in CMS elementary schools. Your contributions enable us to recruit and support tutors, to give hundreds of students an opportunity for a brighter future. With Gratitude, Emily Elliott Executive Director Heart Math Tutoring

10 Ways You Can Get Involved in Politics

10 Ways You Can Get Involved in Politics (via Pixabay) 1) Knowledge is Power Before getting involved in politics it is essential to know and understand its background.  USA.gov  will be your best friend when it comes to learning the basics of how the government actually works. If you dont feel like looking up books in the library, you could always check out some YouTube videos that would speed the process along a little more quickly.  Here  is a seven-minute  crash course on the government basics! School House Rock is no longer around, their catchy, easy-to-follow tunes can be found on YouTube, like the classic  Im Just A Bill  song. Basically, there are several ways to learn about government and its history, whether youd like to indulge in a novel or just watch a quick video. 2) Register to Vote This step is simple and can be achieved in just a few minutes. You can register to vote at your local Department of Motor Vehicles or online. Visit this site  to find out more about where your local DMV is located and how to properly go about the process. 3) Go Actually Vote This should be obvious, but some feel as though their votes do not count. With the proper education on the voting process, you can find out that the constituents do indeed matter. This process can seem sketchy when talking about the electoral college but this actual weighs a states population in connection to the rest of the country. These electoral college numbers represent your  vote in a way that is cohesive and fair when it comes to the total population of the country. If this explanation  is confusing heres a short video  on explaining what it is and another discussing the voting process. US Capitol (via Wikimedia Commons) 4) Learn Who Reps Your State Whos your rep?? The government has three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. The legislative branch is where representatives come into play. This branch consists of Congress and the Senate  that are responsible for weighing in on decisions that the executive branch proposes. The legislature is the checks and balances that prevents every decision from becoming an executive order that overrides typical government practice. Its important to know who your state representatives are because you can have an influence on their decisions. Call your representatives, and keep in contact with them to have your voice be heard. You can find out who your representatives are on this website. 5) Share What You Know Knowledge is power for real. The things you know can be impactful to the people you know. Just like how you share stories, you can also share knowledge. You may have heard of the term share the wealth and this is almost one in the same. You can share what you know online or to the people close to you, anything counts! The more that everyone knows about government processes, the more say that constituents have. 6) Meetings on Meetings on Meetings This is possibly the most boring step, but still important! Town hall meetings or meetings in your district can be a direct way of speaking to your local representatives and voicing your opinion. These meetings allow for you to become aware of the things happening in your area that may have been unbeknownst to you. These meetings are a more intimate way to speak your mind rather than leaving your congressman voicemails and emails. But like mentioned earlier, these meetings can be super boring. Depending on what the meeting is about can determine which may be of interest to you. (via Pixabay) 7) Volunteer! Becoming involved does not necessarily always involve the government, but the little things that you can do to help your community. There are often local organizations that you could volunteer for to spread awareness of a cause or assist in their day to day activities. Many churches, schools, and shelters offer volunteer programs that would help out the community around you. There are ways to volunteer in helping people register to vote, and I guess you could consider campaigning for the candidates you believe in as volunteering too. 8) What Do You Believe In? What are you passionate about? What drives you and or riles you up? These things that you feel so strongly about can make your political involvement much easier. If you focus on one topic, or aspect of government, you can direct all of your attention to this cause. Having a focal point will make volunteering and activism seem more easily attainable. Some examples of a focal point would be systematic oppression, environmental factors, or gun control. 9) Find a Publication that Suits You The news media industry is flooded with publications of all kinds. Mainstream publications might not represent your views on a subject but there could be others that do. When you have a source to read from that aligns with your views or provides more information on what you care about, youd be able to keep up on what you believe in. 10) Donate If You Can All of these steps are optional but donating can be the most inconvenient. Unless you have excess money you can spend, donating can take a back seat while you pursue other methods of taking action. Donating to organizations and charities helps them be able to continue making a difference in whatever it is they focus on.

ALOHA Parent Testimonial - South Riding, VA Parent Testimonial Following is an ALOHA Parent Testimonial Spring 2014. We surveyed some of our students and their parents about the programs we offer at ALOHA and this is one of the testimonials we received. Srikar Shivani Nadella Parents Suma Raja Nadella South Riding, Virginia Sreeja Ganesh, owner As all parents do, we always try to analyze our kid’s strengths and weaknesses and accordingly help them and encourage them so that they become successful. Our goals were: Improve their focus and concentration Improve their existing math skills and able to solve the problems with higher accuracy and speed. Help them to understand that there are different ways to solve any problem. So, we decided to try ALOHA for math for both our kids. When I went to enroll them in Chantilly/South Riding ALOHA, Sreeja showed me the newly introduced curriculum, English reading and writing. I was very impressed with the content and the syllabusfor reading/writing. After reviewing the overall curriculum,we opined that joining them for English class will assist them in improving their reading/ writing, narration and explanatory skills. Srikar and Shivanijoined ALOHA in Aug 2012. From then we have seen a gradual improvement of their language and math skills. The teachers were great at identifying the improvements that kids require, and also working on them. It helped our kids in many ways. Both our kids are very comfortable with their teach-ers and are always eager to show their work to us. Further, ALOHA conducts annual competitions for both Math and English vocabulary. We have encouraged our kids to participate in these exams and the girls were very enthusiastic to take part especially in the English vocabulary competition. World of Chemistry Worksheets - A Fun and Easy Way to Learn About a Subject

World of Chemistry Worksheets - A Fun and Easy Way to Learn About a SubjectWorld of Chemistry worksheets are a great way to learn about a subject that you are interested in without wasting a lot of time reading and studying. There are several different ways that you can learn about different things, and one of the best ways to learn is by taking a fun or easy test. That is why these worksheets are perfect for teachers as well as students who are learning about a particular subject. If you have no idea what these tests are then it is important that you know that these are not tests that you have to complete. They are going to take a short amount of time to complete and that is all. They are going to show you some facts about an area of chemistry. They will show you where you need to begin your research in order to learn about this topic. If you are going to take one of these tests then you need to make sure that you read the test carefully so that you will be able to understand what it is trying to tell you. If you cannot understand it then you may not be able to follow along with the test. The type tests are ones that you take after taking the course you are taking. You will have to do this after you have finished your study materials, homework assignments, and science projects. These tests will be based on your grade point average. In other words, they will be based on the percentage of points that you have received in the subjects that you are going to be taking the test in.These types of tests will have to be taken on a workstation where you will be able to see all of the work that you have been doing. This is very important because you will want to be able to see how far you have gotten from the reading material that you have been doing. As you are taking a type test, you will be taking all of the work out of the way so that you will not have to look at it too much. You will then be able to move on to the next type of test.

What Is LIVC Tutoring?

What Is LIVC Tutoring?Lived on college campuses for many years, I first heard about LIVC tutoring while working in the Los Angeles area. Since then, I have worked with many college students that were applying for entry-level positions. While some are fluent with English, others do not have a thorough understanding of the language. To help them with their LIVC programs, LIVC provides certified teachers to their students.LIVC tutors come from a variety of backgrounds, and although all are committed to helping their students succeed, their methods may differ. LIVC believes that an online LIVC program will have a lower attrition rate than an in-classroom teaching experience. LIVC also believes that students will be more motivated to achieve higher grades if they have a more flexible schedule. This gives them the opportunity to study and attend class when it is convenient for them. When students enter a LIVC program, they must complete the LIVC Online Certificate of Completion. They then t ake the exam known as the GRE (Graduate Record Exam). LIVC provides the required materials and then prepares the student to pass the exam. The next step after completing the LIVC certificate is to start a LIVC online course. Some online courses allow the student to sit at their own pace, but most use a timed format, where they complete each course work at a specific time. Students should ensure that they have enough time to complete their required course work.Once students have completed their required courses, they can apply for LIVC teacher certification through an accelerated online process. They can get their certification in just over two years, and then they can apply for a full-time position teaching online LIVC courses. Courses are similar to a regular university course, and students can use the LIVC websites to research courses and check out class schedules.Another benefit of using LIVC Tutoring services is that they have a comprehensive list of tutors who are experienced wi th the LIVC program. When students go through their application process, they must submit a profile of their online classes. When they call for an interview, they can find out which tutors they want to talk to. If they are looking for an experienced and reliable tutor, they will have options to choose from.Whether you are searching for a LIVC certificate or you are simply seeking additional experience for your resume, finding a certified LIVC tutor can really help you. It allows you to fill a need, and it can increase your confidence in your abilities. Get a mentor today!

How to Fit Singing Practice Into Your Daily Routine

How to Fit Singing Practice Into Your Daily Routine Sign up successful Below are some quick tips that will help you feel vocally refreshed and keep your voice active during the day. Plus, these exercises are simple to do, can be done from most anywhere, and only take a few minutes! Perfect for you! 1. Find a small, quiet place, where you can spend at least 5-20 minutes of your day by yourself. It doesn’t matter if this is in the morning or at night; it can be as youre starting your day in the morning, in the bathroom or the shower, during your commute to work/school in the car, back at home at night cooking dinner in the kitchen, in your bedroom, or your backyard could be an option too! It is important that you find a space where you can warm up privately alone, even if you have to go into a closet to get away from roommates or younger siblings! The point is you want to feel comfortable warming up, and not be worried about people hearing you. 2. Start with simple warm ups.  Humming is a great way to start warming up your voice, starting at a comfortable range in your voice. You do not need to overdo these vocal warm ups keep it very light and simple. You are working your muscles just as an athlete stretches his or her muscles before a game. Humming (either before an audition, or when you wake up in the morning) to see what condition your voice is in (especially if you are sick or suffering from allergies) is a great way to keep your voice strong and healthy! 3. Work on a song or your audition piece. After you have spent about 5-10 minutes on a light and easy warm up, you can move on to a song you are working on for fun or for an audition. The key is not to sing full out at first; if you are pressed for time, do a quick “mark” or run-through at half volume of the song, and then sing the song or section full out once. Some people do this right before an audition, to make sure they can hit all the notes or phrases. Singing the song full out once or twice will do minimal damage and is considered a healthy approach to warming up. Belting your song full out ten times before an audition is not effective, as by the time your audition rolls around, your voice may be extremely tired and fatigued and because you hit those notes ten minutes ago, you may not be able to hit them again, since they have been overused! 4. Do not sing in inappropriate public places. The life of an aspiring singer is often very busy and challenging, going on several auditions each day and working several different jobs. Again, I recommend finding a nice, quiet space to yourself to warm up. Oftentimes, I see people on the subway, walking down the street, waiting in line at lunch, or in school warming up at the top of their lungs (some do it to show off!). This is not healthy for your voice, and most often not comfortable for others. We all get that you are an aspiring singer, and your voice is important to you, but if you are battling the noise of subway trains moving by, or singing outside when it’s raining, or in a busy school cafeteria, your voice is going to become fatigued very soon, and you won’t really be able to hear yourself. The only exception I make is warming up in a car, if there really is no other time or place to do your daily routine. Just be careful not to get distracted! Also, many people wear he adphones when they warm up to music; this is okay to a point, but I recommend putting one earbud in your ear and keeping the other out of your ear, so you can hear the music and yourself! If you follow these simple steps, you should be able to have a more effective, quick vocal warm up as part of your daily routine in your busy schedule!
